Conche des Baleines, west.

The bunkers can be found at the beaches west of the lighthouse. Follow the D.101 from the lighthouse in the direction of Les Portes-en-Ré. You can take one of the first paths to the beach.

There are lots of bunkers on this small piece of beach. Three huge 669D´s and a single 669 are lying impressively at the beach-dunes. Notice the covered entrance of the 667 casemate for a 5cm KwK. It's always nice to see a 667 uncovered. All the bunkers can be entered but they are in a bad condition, lots of graffiti and other stuff. The Stützpunkt (Stp.) is protected with two Flak emplacements for a light 2cm gun, two small mg. bunkers at the coastline and a large Tobruk for a 5cm gun in the middle of the battery.

Conche des Baleines, east

This location can be found east of Stp. Ro 428 Klara, along the D.101. Follow the road towards Les Portes-en-Ré and park the car along the road and walk to the beach.

The bunkers are situated in the dunes. We didn't enter the dunes because there was a double fence and it was obvious that it was strictly forbidden to enter the dunes. The reason of this is that the island suffers from erosion, the sand/dunes are washed away by the water. This is the same problem we encounter in Holland at the "Waddeneilanden". So that's why we didn't enter the dunes at several locations. There are two 612D, casemates for a single 7,5cm gun, but with two fire-directions. On top of the dunes was a small observation post and at the coast-line there is a small Mg. bunker left.
At the other side of the dunes there are an emplacement for a 5cm gun and a Tobruk with a covered entrance.
